Dr Warwick Tong graduated as Senior Scholar in Medicine from Auckland University in NZ and with an MPP (Public Policy) from Victoria University, Wellington NZ. After 15 years in clinical medicine he joined Glaxo NZ as Medical Director with subsequent regional and international business and commercial roles in Singapore and London. He was a co-founder of MedInnovate in 2005. He consulted in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry with an extensive period as SVP Development for Surface Logix Inc in Boston MA.
Currently based in Melbourne Australia Warwick is the CEO of a Cooperative Research Centre for Cancer Therapeutics (www.cancercrc.com) a public-private oncology drug discovery organisation. In addition he holds advisory and governance roles at Cortex Health and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Convergent Bio-Nano Science & Technology in Australia and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Maurice Wilkins Centre in Auckland NZ.
Over his time with Glaxo he had extensive experience in infectious disease and also led a major restructuring programme in the development organisation after the GSK merger.
He led the development group at Surface Logix Inc with three small molecules advancing into clinical trials in the cardiovascular, metabolic and oncology therapeutic areas as well as leading commercial and business development activities.
He has provided consultancy advice on strategic, commercial and clinical issues for US, European and NZ based companies in oncology, diabetes and respiratory drug development projects.
